“You are the biggest amazing gift I ever had.” That was according to the note addressed to Gawad Metronian Educational Foundation, Inc. [GMEFI] by its first Deaf scholar, Marjorie Morga. She prepared a lovely Christmas card which surprised and delighted GMEFI Board Member Mirana Medina when she went to the Philippine School for the Deaf [PSD] to collect her report card from PSD Guidance Counsellor Ms. Irish.

A letter of gratitude addressed to GMEFI was written by Marjorie, who was not prodded to make the card according to Ms. Irish. She did it on her own volition. Written from the heart, sincere words of joy and thankfulness to GMEFI’s support could be felt. It’s because Marjorie had to stop for four years because of the family’s financial problems. Her report card shows excellent marks.

Medina, upon the invitation of Ms. Irish also attended the unveiling of Delight Rice’s statue. She founded PSD in 1907, and was also its first teacher and principal. The monument was made possible through the initiative of her foster son Mr. Ronald Hirano, author of the book “Mother Delight Rice”, together with the PSD Alumni Association and friends. Other guests included Pasay City Mayor Antonino Calixto. Dr. Rosalie Condes, PSD OIC Principal and District Supervisor welcomed the guests.
Report cards of Blind student-scholars Ivy Baldosa Roadel and Rey Mark Valencia were also collected from the Philippine National School for the Blind. Both maintained more than the standard grade requirements of GMEFI from PWD scholars.
