Gawad Metronian Educational Foundation, Inc. scholars and their parents who attended the orientation on September 15 met with GMEFI President Dr. Evelyne Dominguez, former Executive Director Gil Reoma and the administrative staff of GMEFI: Ms. Nina Padua and Ms. Cathy Genovia. Dr. Dominguez gave her welcome message after which Mr. Reoma talked on what GMEFI is all about. He also cited examples on how GMEFI could be of help to them and how they could in return also help GMEFI as their way of gratitude or giving back to the Foundation after their studies.

Under the Scholarship and Educational Assistance Program, GMEFI awards other that free tuition fees, book and uniform allowances to scholars who maintained their excellent performance last school year. Recipients were as follows:  Larh Daniel Delos Santos, Lily France Alagos, Cyruz John Calugas and Rei Joanne Pablo.

2017 SOCIAL GOOD SUMMIT – September 16

GMEFI President Evelyne Dominguez and Board Member Mirana Medina attended the “2017 Social Good Summit,” an activity organized by Rappler in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Philippines). It was held at Samsung Hall, SM Aura on September 16, 2017 or a day after GMEFI Scholars’ Orientation. It was GMEFI’s respite after months of work, hectic and frenzy days spent for the benefit film showing of Gawad Metronian Educational Foundation, Inc. last August 26, 2017. GMEFI joined the Summit  to meet and link with possible new partners and groups.

The summit opened with an inspirational message by businessman Mr. Joey Concepcion [photo below]. He was the keynote speaker of the day. Attendees to the summit largely consisted of millenials.

This summit’s theme was: “Innovate with Purpose, Leave No One Behind.” It challenges Filipinos to formulate innovative solutions to help achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. More than 100 organizations participated in the #2030now challenge.


Rondalla on Wheels led by their Music conductor Maestro Michael Angelo Rivera

On September 28, 2017, nearly two weeks after the summit, GMEFI supportive of Persons with Disability talents and activities partnered with Bahay Mapagmahal Foundation and Metro Manila College [MMC].  As part of MMC’s 70th year anniversary celebrations, GMEFI presented the talented members of Rondalla on Wheels, consisting of wheel-chaired PWDs led by their Music conductor Maestro Michael Angelo Rivera. The members whose age varied from age 10 to 30 greatly inspired the audience.They performed before an enthusiastic crowd consisting of MMC students, faculty staff, school authorities and outsiders who roared into applause after each of their performances.  The performers were equally happy and overwhelmed by the response of the audience to their presentation. Their presence was highlighted and heightened by the impressive solo performance of Mr. Arman Pila Dino, a PWD singer who sang with gusto, and with heart and soul.

The PWDs were joined by student performers from the MMC Cultural Society and GMEFI Scholars. As part of the said show they all togehter brought the house down during the full Rondalla on Wheels Show. It was a memorable, happy afternoon to remember.
