First Meeting with Bulacan Governor Hon. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado, January 18, 2017
Gawad Metronian Educational Foundation, Inc. [GMEFI] Funds Committee Head Natividad Villano, wife of the former mayor of San Jose del Monte personally knows Bulacan Governor Hon. Wilhelmino M. Sy-Alvarado. She introduced us to him, and we were all warmly welcomed in his cozy office. Mrs. Villano first introduced the Foundation and the need for support of our scholars. She was backed up by GMEFI E.D. Virgilio Reoma. Meanwhile, I presented the idea of showing my educational documentary, PULE: Utak ng Rebolusyon if possible, as part of their program in celebration of the First Philippine Republic Day since it includes segments on the Malolos Constitution and the Inauguration of the First Philippine Republic in 1899. It was in fact, reading about House Bill 477 which is pertinent to said celebration that prompted me to ask Mrs. Villano if she knows the Hon. Sy-Alvarado since she is a resident of Bulacan. It was however not him, but actually his son, Bulacan 1st District Rep. Jose Antonio Sy-Alvarado who authored the bill.
As GMEFI members, we have double mission in going there: To have the film shown to schools in the province for student’s awareness about the not so-known life of Mabini, and for them to know the important role of Malolos in Philippine history, while at the same time serving as GMEFI’s fund-raising tool to help raise funds for its Scholarship Programs. Our current scholars number more than 60 this school year 2016-2017.
The Governor proposed the idea of presenting it directly to school heads first. Should they find it worthwhile for showing to their students, they could then call us up, and coordinate regarding screening it as part of their school activity. Since last year, the same idea has long been my proposition to other GMEFI Board members. The Governor finally told us to coordinate with her secretary, Ms. Eda for a second meeting to discuss on how to go about it. As we leave his office, we saw throngs of people lining up as they wait to consult with the Governor.

Five-minute excerpts from the documentary was then to be presented. [Below photo]: I do not remember what we were talking about or conferring with but it must have been interesting based on our expression.

We were later introduced by the Governor to Mr. Eliseo S. dela Cruz, Provincial History, Art, Culture and Tourism Officer, and Ms. Weng Tiongson, one of his department heads. Some of his other staff members were also present. Mr. Ely discussed with us DepEd protocols re film showing. The Governor finally asked us to show the full version of the film to his core group when we return. He mentioned Dr. Jimmy Veneracion, historian-friend of my brother, Dr. Isagani R. Medina. If at all it would finally be shown to selected people, they prefer to schedule it sometime in March.
